Player Plot Template - Festivals
A template for any Festival Esteban (
crowneddragon) might pull together. Should follow three or four steps.
A - Organization - An OOC thread to take up names and who would be interested in providing for the festival. This is in terms of entertainment, food, drinks and costumes/decorating.
A-1 - There can be an attempt at IC organization if people are open to the idea, though this is not a requirement.
B - Building the Thread - Following this very template, a Thread should be prepared AT LEAST A MONTH IN ADVANCE in order to check things with mods, and provide the leg room to change anything if necessary.
C - The actual Thread - Somewhat as scripted under the cut.
*~*~*
The Thread should follow three Main Points for the festival. [COLOUR], [THEME], and [CONSUMABLES]. Mods may approve of an [EVENT] to accompany the festival.
[COLOUR] refers to the main, or two main colours that will dominate the venue. This is to start the description on what attracts the eye, and to help flesh out the main post with an overall look for the festival.
[THEME] refers to the main theme of the festival. It can be something like "Water" or "Sunshine" or "Innovation." The idea is to give a general direction for everyone to follow, without being constrictive. This can also be used as a theme for special items found in booths and shops held by NPCs, with permission from mods.
[CONSUMABLES] refers to any food and drink items found on the venue, to help describe scent and ambiance. Preferably 2-3 per each, foods should be finger foods/ easy to eat in hands, while one beverage should be alcoholic, and one non-alcoholic.
[EVENT / ADD ONS] IF MOD APPROVED, an event can be tied to the festival to bring more interest in. This can tie-in a more action-oriented scene, or more mystery if desired. Add ons may include temporary outfits. A masquerade ball might have pretty ballgowns available for one day, for example.
Extra: Don't be lazy! You are an excellent writer, and you know it! Use this to let your description shine and bring as much ambiance as you can to the post!

BODY:
(The body below is just a guideline to help me write the text. For an actual example post, follow this link here!)

[COLOUR]
[Paragraph 1]
Venue. Weather. Time of day.
- What venue are they using? Is is in a village? In a forest? Is the path to it steady and made of cobblestones, or a roughly hewn path with little stones in the way?
- What's the weather like? How is it affecting the festival? Are the colours all the more vivid because it's foggy? Are there bright rainbows of umbrellas for sale/offered because there's a drizzle, or even a downpour? UPPLAY THE JOY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, NO MATTER THE WEATHER!
- Reminder of when the festival is taking place, and why! Is it during the morning, as a flower festival? Is it during the evening, for spectacular shows? Is it an all day event, and if so, what's available and when?
[Paragraph 2]
Changes brought to the venue. Event Layout.
- Describe everything that you can! How does the event interact with the venue? Flowers everywhere? Bright banners of cloth stretched between trees to provide shade? Is there shelter somewhere against rain? Are there bonfires to keep people warm as the night grows colder?
- How is the event laid out? Is it a single row of small booths? Parallel rows? Are they set in a circle?
[Paragraph 3]
Celebrations. NPCs. Shops.
- Break down three things that are a direct result of the festival. Start hinting at the theme, the overall notes of it.
- How is the weather/festival affecting outfits? Thick coats and cloaks? Umbrellas and raincoats? Bright, fluttery cloth to help endure the heat better?
- Quick look at NPCs available, and their shops. Feel free to use reoccuring characters with basic shop/looks/personalities. A cheery blue-haired jewelry seller. A stout bookworm selling rare tomes with a gruff voice. A fast-paced chef selling bread buns with their strange gleaming red hands?
[THEME]
[Paragraph 1]
Overall theme of the festival.
- Lay down what the theme is. Straight up. Not vaguely. If the theme is water, the term "water" should be in the first sentence! Flowers, Innovation, Invention, Friendship, Games and Play, Fire, Flight, Magic. Pick a theme, or better, hopefully take suggestions!
- How does the theme affect decoration? How does the theme affect items on sale? (overview)
[Paragraph 2]
Items on sale. Items on display.
- Lay down three common items that can be found through the little stores (descriptive). These should be tied in with the theme.
- Lay down three large items that are placed to attract attention-- this can tie back with the Colour items, but bring more details to them! Bright banners to escape the heat also have pretty geometric patterns in them. The statue in the townsquare has been decorated with a crown of lilies. A platform's been raised atop a large tree to see the entire party venue.
[Paragraph 3]
Player-led event overview.
- Describe quickly a few of the shows available to watch, and how it ties in with the theme. This should be an overview and not a true spotlight.
[CONSUMABLES]
[Paragraph 1]
Get back to it after paragraph 2 and 3 have been established.
Sounds, and smells.
- Describe an overview of the music played; drum-based or more classical? String instruments or piano and flute? An Invention festival could boast snappier, electronic music! Can everyone play, or is there a dedicated group of musicians?
- Describe the scents that come from the food (overview). Cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg? Or salty, crispy fried foods? Or the strange sharp tang of smoked veggies and meats?
[Paragraph 2]
The food.
- Describe the food in question! The crisp bite of fresh fruits, the warm brought by creamy soup served in disposable cups, or the too-hot bite of something freshly fried?
- Make people hungry with your descriptions. You know you can. XD
- Try to have 2 or 3 food items related to the theme. All three should be finger-foods/easily consumable with nothing more than a toothpick.
[Paragraph 3]
The drinks.
- Should be split into two. Describe a drink that is available to everyone; colour, consistency, and smells are all parts of it. A creamy hot chocolate with a sprinkle of cinnamon? Or a fresh orange juice with a dollop of grenadine syrup? Sharp, clear pear juice in brightly coloured cups?
- Describe a drink available for adults. Low alcohol and sweet cocktail in bright neon colours? A warm mulled wine with sweet spices in disposable cups that radiate warmth? A shot of hard alcohol on shards of ice shaped like flowers?
[EVENT / ADD ONS]
[Paragraph 1]
Add ons temporarily available.
- Describe clothes or accessories that might be in use for the day. Masks, dresses, and tuxedos? Or is there a painter drawing on childrens' faces? Can people try out stilts and trapeze and trampolines?
- Magic-laced items for a short effect? Dragon-transforming candy from Jingyi comes to mind; but it can be a handful of things! Grow wings and learn the basics of flight! Talk to animals for a few minutes, or learn to shift gravity around!
- These should be items that are available ONLY TEMPORARILY, and will be removed by the end of the day.
[Paragraph 2]
Festival grounds events.
- Large item/area that relates to the festival. Is there a maze of hedges a little way from the festival where people can enjoy getting lost in? A large stage where contests of drama, dancing or music playing can take place? A haunted house with weeping ghosts ready to scare the unwary?
- Describe it IN DEPTHS, this is the only place it's likely to show!
[Paragraph 3]
Anything missing so far.
- What it says on the tin.
